IT WORKS!! Took my AC system to 30 Inch of Vacuum in minutes
I read some of the reviews and was not sure if I should get this one or the two stage, but HF has a 90 day return policy, so I figure why not try the cheaper version first and upgrade if needed. I had not issues with the pump at all. A couple things I will note: 1. It takes almost the whole bottle of oil for the initial fill (my pump's oil sump came empty). It uses oil as it operates and I got low on oil, I used the HF compressor oil to refill (I am not sure this is the right stuff but it is what I had). 2. Some reviews show the pump only pulling a 24-28 inches of vacuum. Mine initially did th

Perfect for automotive A/C system evacuation
MUST BE FILLED WITH COMPRESSOR OIL BEFORE FIRST USE! I bought this to evacuate the A/C system on a 2001 Chevy Silverado after condenser replacement. It quickly pulled the system down to 29 inches of mercury (indicated) and held it there for the recommended 30 minute evacuation cycle without breaking a sweat. It is quiet, compact, and comes with sufficient compressor oil to do the initial fill with a couple of ounces left over. A sight-glass allows verification of oil level at a glance. Note that the o-ring on the oil fill plug will push out if you over-tighten the plug. This is far superior to

Decent for the price
Used this to evacuate an A/C system on a Toyota Sequoia with dual ac. After 30 mins it pulled it down to roughly 29.5 vacuum and didnt make any funny noises or get too hot to touch while doing so. Adding the oil was odd and it over filled. I poured in 3/4 of the bottle and it didnt rise in the sight glass. Splashed a little more and it suddenly rose too high and had to pour some back out. Otherwise, decent purchase and fairly quiet. We will see how it holds up in the long run. I have 2 more a/c systems to evacuate and recharge. Build quality honestly seemed well enough with a decent fit/finish

It does what it should.
But one caveat. I bought this so I could put vacuum on my car's AC system and check the system's integrity. Imagine my surprise when I found out I couldn't use this with Harbor Freight's A/C R134A manifold gauge set (SKU 60806, 92649, or 2435) as-is. You'll need to buy an adapter that goes from 1/2" ACME down to 1/4" SAE. Make sure the 1/2" is male and the 1/4" is female. You can get them at home improvement stores wherever they sell air compressors and fittings. I don't see them offered on Harbor Freight's website, but try asking in the store. Maybe they're just not listed. Other than that, i

Worked as expected.
Did a DIY recharge on a fridge that had been down a while. Having been down a while I figured a good vacuum session was in order. Ran it for a little over a half hour and then went through the recharge process. Liked that it came with compressor oil. Put the whole bottle in and then realized it was more than needed. Carefully drained some out to the proper level and have some to top off if needed. So, when you fill yours watch the fill line and stop accordingly. It seemed to work just fine and held a vacuum at just under -30. This was at a vacation home so I dont know if my charge has held but

Great value for the few times I need a vacuum pump
I only work on my own cars so paying a lot for a vacuum pump doesn't make a lot of sense, but I still need one that does the job. I recently needed to replace some components in my car's AC system. It had leaked all the coolant so I wanted to do a full vacuum and leak test which was the reason I finally bought this pump. It worked great, pulled down a full 30" of vacuum and held it for over 2 hours after I found and repaired the leak. It let me do a professional repair at home in my driveway, payed for itself that first time I used it.

Perfect for car air conditioner
Nicely made pump that is surprisingly quiet. Pulled a vacuum easily and removed moisture on my trucks air conditioning system after I replaced the compressor. I've read some reviews that suggest this is a good pump for occasional use. That's all I will ever use it but based on the quality of the construction and the quiet operation, there is nothing obvious that indicates that it would have any trouble standing up to frequent use.

How LOW Can You Go?
Pressure wise that is. Well, with this lil vacuum pump, you can definitely go as low as is needed for AC work. I use this pump for automotive AC work when replacing damaged systems or those already recovered by other means and also for installing new mini-split systems (with a special adapter available on Amazon). It gets the job done and didn't break the bank. Just what this old guy requires.

This pump got me out of a troble when my robinair pump broke
I am an A/C contractor(residential). My main pump broke in the middle of a job and left me stranded! My helper said go to Harbor Freight they have them. So off we went and bought a 2.5 CFM pump that was supposed to be for auto air? We took the pump back to the job, hooked it up and to our surprise, this little pump pulled a vac on a 3 ton, 410A central system to 29.913Hg. Saved my day. I was so happy I bought 2 more! All are working almost a year later, just have to keep up on the oil changes. The only negative I found, if negative at all, was the vent cap can pop off if to much pressure is ap

Good pump but it leaked
I finally located one of these in my area. I put it to the test. It seemed to pump the system to a low point, but it leaked oil through the intake somehow. The oil worked its way into the hose to the gauge. I could never resolve the leak, so I returned the pump. This one was likely just a one-of-a-kind defect. I haven't replaced the pump otherwise.

Great for A/C and refrigeration work on small systems.
Compact and lightweight. Not particularly for heavy duty use, but great for occasional use on small systems. Easy to carry to the roof for evacuating systems. I have checked this machine with a digital Vacuum gauge and it will consistently reach 1000 to 500 inches of mercury just like the more expensive units.

Easy setup and use
I used this to repair a/c unit in a Ford F-150 PU Truck. After adding oil to the pump(included), it was simple to connect to system and pull the required vacuum to purge the system after repair, prior to adding new refrigerant. I am an advanced home repair guy. The price was lower than the cheap vacuum pump they sell if you include the large air compressor you need to make it work.

Best purchase possible
My $900 8.5 cfm died mid job. This was the closest vacuum pump available, I skeptically purchased, but was thrilled with results. Definitely not as fast as my bigger pump, but pulled to 500 microns within an hour, and its physically a third the size and weight, very portable. Great product

I definitely recommend this Vacuum Pump
After much research on vacuum pumps, vacuum pump oils, and how they're built and comparing this pump to others. I decided to buy this pump, Robinair High Vacuum pump oil, and invest in a Micro Bluevac micron gauge. Since my research didn't specifically answer a micron gauge pull down test for this pump, I decided to perform this test since some reviews mention this pump doesn't work. Too my amazement, this pump pulled down vacuum to 40 microns between 5-10 minutes (I didn't time myself). This pump exceeds the micron rating listed (75 microns) and is almost comparable to name brand pump ratings

Works like a champ
This is not the most powerful pump out there, but I have no complaints!! I used it on two vehicles so far and it does the job. My HF gauges showed it getting down to about 28, was easy to use, and so far so good. Maybe not the one for A/C professionals, but for occasional use, why spend the extra money? Very happy with this unit.

Great pump
I purchased this pump to replace one that came in a vacuum chamber kit (that I returned after using twice). The other pump was rated at 3.0 CFM but this one drew maximum vacuum in less time. It also came with a small bottle of vacuum oil. Good thing because Harbor Freight does not sell vacuum oil. What's up with that? I'm using it to stabilize wood and it performs admirably. I've kept it running for over six hours with no problem yet. I like that I can close off the valve to the vacuum chamber, then unscrew the unused plastic cap at the inlet, then turn off the pump to maintain vacuum in the c

Cannot beat having your own vacuum pump so you can do your own car air conditioner repairs. I replaced my car's compressor with a complete kit. Great Pump for A/C work
Works great to evacuate your car's A/C system. Careful as it will pull out the lubrication as well. Don't leave out in the sun in Phoenix when 115 F. It will overheat and stop pumping. Shade it with a box or under the vehicle or under the hood. The oil spilled out of the provided bottle.

Worked great
I first tried the air powered venturi vacuum pump. It would only pump down to 22" vacuum which would not boil the moisture. I returned it and bought this one. It pumped it down to 30" vacuum in no time. It is a great product for automotive use.

AC air vacuum pump
At first I thought it may have an issue due to it smoking. After a quick check found an AC line not seated properly. After the fix pulled a good vacuum immediately with no smoke after first minute. Pulled 30mm vacuum after 15 min but left it on the recommended 30 min as per recommendations from others. Now my ac is back to blowing cold thanks to Harbor Freight who had all parts in stocks and priced right.

Very useful tool at a great price
I ended up getting this with a 25% off coupon. At this price range, it became even a better deal. It is a really quiet pump, didn't get hot while running for an hour and while using it on a car A/C system, it got to 29 inches of mercury, in a matter of seconds. It has 2 connector types, each sealed with a cap containing an oring. No leaks. Fill cap is plastic and a small funnel wouldnt hurt, but didnt need it either. 8oz Bottle of oil included, which onlt took like 5-6 oz to fill... still have some left for future top offs. Construction is solid and well made. Color me impressed! Sure was wort

Im not a mechanic or HVAC tech (my hat off to those guys - tough job!) but Im mechanically inclined enough to try it myself. All went without a hitch. I love this vacuum pump. I tried the cheapie that hooks to you air compressor and it wouldn't pull enough for an A/C system. This one worked like a charm and I got 28hg pulled down verified my system was seal and was able to charge it back up. I would strongly recommend this to anyone.

Great little pump
Bought this for auto A/C rebuild, worked like a champ, no problem Reviewed many other pumps, more expensive, finally settled on this one for occasional use, since I do not do A/C systems very often. 20 % coupon reduced costs even further. Read on other similar pump ratings that the problem with these pumps working once and locking up is that evacuating all the gunk in auto A/C systems will contaminate the oil in the pump. Acids will corrode the internal workings unless the oil is changed after every use. So much for one time use and then failures, maintain it and it should work for a long time

Had to open two car AC systems to replace O rings and repair system R134 leaks (both leaks found with dye additive). Purchased the single stage vacuum pump from HF and was able to do two things: (1) suck down system to remove air and water vapor and (2) verify system could hold vacuum meaning the "leak" was fixed. Excellent little pump
Draws down to 30 inches Hg as indicated on my gauge set. I keep it running for 1 hour and it didn't complain or over heat. The only I complaint I have is the initial oil fill is a pain, you need to drip it in via funnel, any more flow and it'll back up and bubble out. Have a little extra oil on hand because most of it will end up on the floor on the first fill.

So pleased with my purchase!
After breaking my small Plastic compressor powered Vac Pump. I went back to the store to buy this one. I am so glad I did! this thing took my AC system on two of my cars down to 30 hg in just about two minutes or so! And wow that made servicing the AC system so easy. And while the next one up probably works a little better this one happened to be on sale. More than enough pumping power for the Driveway Mechanic! One tip all of these will get hot when operating so while using it I placed an old floor fan on it to keep it cool so I did not have to worry about burning my self!
